President
Andres Treviño
HLSA has been a core part of my law school experience. I was the first 1L to be part of the of the executive board and have since continued to do my best to serve the HLSA community. What I will bring to the board is experience, clear communication, and a space for members to voice their ideas. As Treasurer, I was able to work closely with Gabi, our HLSA President, on important HLSA events and meetings. I have formed strong relationships with faculty members Kirk Guillory and Gerardo Ramirez who are essential to HLSA’s operations. Finally, I have had the honor of working alongside so many great HLSA leaders and pride myself on my ability to take constructive criticism from those leaders to make myself better. In conclusion, HLSA means so much to me, and I would love nothing more than to serve as HLSA’s next President.

Pedro CuellarI am running for President of HLSA because I am passionate about further developing an inclusive environment at STCLH through the vital work of the organization. My goals are to continue propelling our peers into success in the legal community, and to increase membership and participation within our organization.
As a Latino and first-generation law student, I know firsthand the challenges that our community faces when entering this profession. HLSA has given me the opportunity to grow professionally. It is my mission to ensure that all HLSA members are allowed that same opportunity. During my tenure on the HLSA Executive Board, I have led the 1L Student Orientation and two HLSA General Meetings. I have successfully advocated for our organization outside of school, and twice received funding. I have brought attorneys and judges to come speak and network with our students. I am committed to my peers and colleagues, and especially to this organization. You can expect me to help grow our organization, to continue building a culture that fosters a supportive and empowering community, to listen to the goals of our members, and to be the voice to execute those goals. Together we can take our organization forward, pa’delante! |

For this upcoming year, Helene and I are focused on making HLSA about fun events, meaningful connections, and great opportunities. We understand that law school can be stressful so we want to provide a stress-free outlet for our members. Only 2% of attorneys in the U.S. are Latina. This is why it is so important for us to show up and show out for these leadership positions.
This past year, we both had the opportunity to serve on the Executive Board, allowing us to meet a lot of you. Based on these interactions, we hope to meet all of your expectations for the future of HLSA! From the first week of law school to joining HLSA together, to running for the Board together, Helene and I have become a great team, and hope we get a chance to keep showing you that! |

Alexis AcevedoIn just a semester and a half, I have enjoyed the volunteer opportunities, fundraising efforts, cultural celebrations, and networking events that HLSA has organized. Ranging from career guidance to stress relief HLSA has undeniably allowed people to find a strong support group, something I have admired since joining. As I approach what has quickly turned into the end of my first year I plan to devote more of my time and energy to this club that has provided so many opportunities to myself and my peers alike. My ability to communicate effectively and my love for collaboration are my top strengths, which I believe will allow me to be a strong 2L representative and a strong board member. In any capacity I can, I am eager to lend a helping hand and do my part to ensure the continued success of these events, the continued success of the organization, the continued success of our members, and the continued success of the Hispanic community.

Karina TovarI am running for office because HLSA has made such a positive impact on my first year. I have certainly enjoyed being a part of an organization that empowers the Hispanic community here at STCL. Just as the previous officers have supported me and helped me throughout my law school journey, I want to do the same for new and continuing members.
I have extensive experience in planning social events and have attended many of the events hosted by HLSA. I understand how much effort and hard work is put into these events and I want to continue the fun and sense of community that these events bring. Thank you and I sincerely appreciate your vote! |

Communications AmbassadorBrianna GonzalezHLSA is an organization that is focused on giving back to the Hispanic community and creating a space for the promotion of comradery while providing resources and encouragement to thrive beyond law school. I believe that I have the experience and tools to further the mission of HLSA. I am very passionate about giving back to the organization that helped me form lifelong friendships and continuing the cycle for future members. I care about forming connections with both my fellow Hispanic students and the greater network of Hispanic lawyers within Houston and Texas overall.

Jackie Montemayor My name is Jackie Montemayor, and I am running to be Hispanic Law Student Association’s 2023-2024 Social Chair. I have been a member of HLSA through my first and second year of law school. Through HLSA, I was introduced to wonderful people whom I now consider good friends. Likewise, I was able to participate in volunteer opportunities such as Harris County Criminal Court’s Fresh Start and Catholic Charities Citizenship Workshop. I am incredibly grateful to HLSA for celebrating our culture whilst introducing its member to friends, mentors, and opportunities to gain hands-on experience in multiple fields.
Out of gratitude for this amazing organization, I would like to serve the board as Social Chair. As Social Chair, I will assist in creating and hosting social events for our members and interested students. I will also collaborate with other organizations to support these social events. I hope that I can provide experiences that are meaningful and memorable to our members and interested students. I will achieve this goal by actively listening to their wants and needs. HLSA’s social events provide opportunities to meet and create bonds with inspirational people in our community, future colleagues, and lifelong friends. I would love to serve HLSA as the 2023-2024 Social Chair. |
Pro-Bono Ambassador
Sara MemiIt has been a great honor serving as your Pro-Bono Ambassador this past year. Finding new ways to help the community has always resonated in my heart, and my time in law school has made me realize how important it is to help make legal knowledge more accessible to people. My past work with Texas Law Help showed me this was possible and that there is so much we can do right here, right now as law students. HLSA’s partnerships with Catholic Charities and the Harris County Criminal Misdemeanor Courts have allowed students to gain experience with immigration and criminal attorneys while learning what our community members need to access their rights. I want to continue HLSA’s partnership with these legal groups while finding new opportunities for students in other areas of law. I would be honored to continue another year as your Pro-Bono Ambassador, bringing experiential opportunities to YOU! Please consider re-electing me, Sara Memi, as your Pro-Bono Ambassador.

Julie RamosWhen I moved away for the first time for undergrad, I quickly found a sense of community by joining student organizations on campus and volunteering in a new community. As I began law school last semester, I realized that it was just as important to do the same here, and finding a community on campus helped with my sense of self-belonging at STCLH. I am running for office to assist HLSA in promoting our existence on campus and continue to bring more eagerness to our organization! Coming from Laredo, TX, I have found it heartening to be able to volunteer with communities and individuals like those back home. I have found great value in being able to get out of the classroom and not only volunteer but learn more about the role we are working towards. I plan to be fully committed and innovative with the rest of the 2023-2024 HLSA executive board using my energy and experiences to expand the organization!
