Katy Meraz

President

​Currently a 3L at STCLH, Katy has an Economics B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin. Katy is a first generation law student and an a contributor to STCL's Hispanic Journal of Law and Policy. As President, she is committed to advancing HLSA's mission by empowering our organization to reach its full potential and working with other student organizations to best assist STCL students in cultivating networking skills for their future practice of law.

Fun Fact: I love tamales, especially the sweet ones with raisins. 
Area of Interest: Mass Torts Law and Personal Injury

Stephanie Diaz

Vice President

My name is Stephanie Diaz and I am a current 3L. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and Minor in Business Administration from Texas A&M University. I am the first person in my family to ever graduate college and go to law school. As Vice President of HLSA, I hope to encourage and remind minority law students that there is a deserving place for us in the legal field.

​I'm deeply interested in immigration issues in our community and hope to become a specialized lawyer in the field.

Fun Fact about me: I spent a semester living in Germany!

​Motto I live by: “Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are all noble pursuits, and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.”

My name is Edna Rodríguez and I am a 2L. I have a B.A. in Iberian and Latin American Languages & Cultures from The University of Texas at Austin.

​My goal as Treasurer is to ensure the organization’s financial needs are met so we can further HLSA’s mission of assisting the Hispanic law students with their educational and professional needs.


I am interested in Immigration, Personal Injury and Real Estate.

A fun fact about me is that I love Disney Channel shows from the 2000s because that’s how I learned English!

As a First Generation Immigrant, college graduate and law school student, one of the motto’s I live by is “Stick to the fight when you are hardest hit. It’s when things seem worse that you mustn’t quit.” - Anonymous.

Short Background: Grew up in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico moved to the United States in 2015. Eldest sibling out of 3 girls.

Goals: My main goal as an officer for HLSA is to provide a family atmosphere and make
everyone feel welcome. I believe that the Hispanic Community can obtain unsurmountable goals when we stay together.

Fun Fact: Always looking for new challenges to push me mentally and physically.

Communications Ambassador

My name is Valerie Torres, and I am a 3L. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with  minors in Legal Studies and Philosophy from the University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley. I am a first generation college graduate and law student. 

As the Communications Ambassador, I hope to utilize my platform to help recruit incoming and continuing students and continue the organization's legacy. HLSA became family to me when I moved away from home for the first time to attend law school. I hope to help continue the  traditions and support the HLSA community this year despite the challenges that we may face. 


I am interested in Immigration Law, Criminal Law and Family Law. 

A fun fact about me is that my roommate is a  Great Dane named Wes!

​My name is Josie Lopez and I am currently a 2L at South Texas College of Law. I received my Bachelors in Political Science with a Minor in Criminal Justice at the University of North Texas in Denton. As the Pro Bono Ambassador, I hope to facilitate and organize events that will give our members and STCL students the opportunity to serve our Houston community.

The areas of law that I am interested in are labor and employment law, business law, and civil rights law.

A fun fact about me is that I laugh at myself for being a  clumsy person and accident prone.

​My name is Karina Trujillo and I am currently a rising 2L at STCL. I obtained a B.A. in Government with a minor in English at the University of Texas at Austin. As the 2L Representative for STCL my goal is to maintain the momentum of last year by promoting HLSA events to the STCL student body, predominantly 2Ls. I also hope to increase or maintain our membership numbers by providing quality engagement at HLSA events.

A fun fact about me is that doggie pictures, videos, or memes help me destress.

Areas of Law that I am interested in are immigration, employment, and criminal law.
